Pack smarter
All too often the NYC moving team will be transporting half-full boxes. Pack smarter: bulky items at the bottom and small lightweight objects at the top. Better packed boxes reduce the number you will need. See moving boxes.
Only use biodegradable packaging
Liffey will supply boxes and packing material, most of which can be recycled. If you choose your own, try reusable heavy-duty boxes and/or biodegradable material. Reusable boxes can go into storage or be donated.
Recycle when you can
Cardboard boxes and plastic are common leftovers. There are plenty of locations throughout New York where you can recycle these items.
Donate items
Donating clothes, furniture and other goods to charities and thrift stores reduces impact and provides for those in need. Or sell unused items on online platforms. See selling used furniture.
